About the film
A non-interactive VR experience exploring the future of “data mining” on distant worlds, putting the user directly in the shoes of a pair of colonial explorers.
Co-produced with and script by Brad Riddell, production for this short film started in January of 2021 as a BlueLight Project at DePaul with 23 students. The class was run by the film’s director (Joel Benjamin) and students worked on pre-production / production / post production.
Exploring a Distant world
From space to the ocean floor
Max Q starts with the shuttle+submersible Desiderus docked on the BuXiu Qixi in orbit around an alien planet. After receiving a distress call from the shuttle Pravarthak, the crew of the Desiderus is tasked with rescuing their colleagues who are sinking in an ocean filled with strange creatures.
